A starless view of the Ion Tail Disturbance that occurred on the morning of 2023-01-21.
This still frame is but one from the animation that can be seen by hovering over the image or by selecting the revision B. (50MB file, so don't want to bog someone's internet without intent.)
A total of 207x30s luminance exposures were taken across three different framings to produce this video. Each frame was processed using the following techniques:
* Calibrated using Flats and Bias frames
* Cosmetic Correction to reduce the hot pixels
* Star Alignment in Mosaic Union mode using the first and last frame to produce a full reference field of the
* Star Alignment of all subs in registration match mode against the full reference field
* Comet Alignment (pre 1.3.5 update) of all Star Aligned exposures to center all frames using a reference frame selected from the middle of the session
* StarXterminator was run to produce starless versions of the frames
* All Comet Aligned frames and Starless Comet Aligned Frames were noise reduced, histogram stretched
* The resulting frames were run (separately) through AS!3 to create sequences of stacks each 20 frames long (Expand Mode, 20 exposures, every other frame) to create 104 stacks
* Additional curves and MLT sharpening was applied to each of these mini-stacks
* The resulting files were then cropped and resized for viewing
